Welcome to Share a Taste of Home
Share a Taste of Home is a project aimed at supporting the US army. By sending out cards, messages, the US population can show it's appreciation to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
A number of dishwasher brands have also been fully supportive, and have tried to get the project firmly off the ground with large cash contributions - Bosch and Maytag to name a couple.
The project has also been fully supported by a range of other large corporations, but most prolifically, McDonald's. McDonalds have been keen to send out used cooking equipment, such as dishwashers so the troops can cook for themselves, but army officials have blocked these actions, claiming it would be of no help and is merely a publicity stunt.
Most army units only have basic cooking tools - obviously no dishwashers or ovens, so it is not really feasible to literally share a taste of home by sending food out. At least this is the case for hot foods, and other foods which require significant preparation - hence some items have been sent: crisps, chocolate bars and nuts.
Some participators in the project have even sent home-baked cakes. However, this is not recommended as it can take as long as 3 weeks for food to reach it's destination, by which time cakes have gone mouldy.
We look forward to seeing how the project progresses!
